This is an ideal PAT Testing job for someone already trading in the PAT profession looking for a bit more work, without the hassle of having to go looking for it. This pat testing job is for someone who is already self employed.

Hello, I am Richard Ayre – DRA PAT Testing is my business. I started it in 2009 and since it has grown steadily. In 2018 I employed Kyle to help me as the workload had increased, initially on a one-day per week but in the past 12 months workload has increased to the point where he is now full time and we’re still experiencing steady growth. 

We’re now at the point where 2 of us are not enough and we need add someone else to the team. We are advertising 3 types of position but only looking to fill one at this point, although we don’t know what the future holds. 

For the employed positions we’d be looking at a contract being put in place, with an agreed plan of minimum one-day per week to start; we are not an exclusive employer so you can work for us and other jobs too, but you will be expected to operate inline with business needs. 

Whatever position you’re aiming for you must be based in North Tyneside or Newcastle, have your own vehicle with business use insurance, and some knowledge of electrical safety/basic maintenance.  

The role:

To carry out portable appliance testing for our clients on site in their premises across the North East of England,

To ensure portable electrical appliances are safe to use; carry out visual inspections of appliances and test in accordance with current health and safety regulations, and complete and submit paperwork to our high standards. 


The applicant must have at least one year experienced in same or similar role, and be qualified to City and Guilds 2377 standard. 

  • Must have a full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • A flexible approach to working hours as the job involves working 7 days a week, including evenings and early mornings
  • The role is hands on and would suit an individual that can work on their own initiative and have a proactive approach to undertake the tasks required, and be able to work within a small team. 
  • The ideal candidate will be polite and reliable, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to plan and supervise their own workload
  • Ability to liaise with clients is required
  • Must be over 21

The candidate must not have a criminal record, and will be checked. 

The candidate will need to provide their own work shoes and trousers, and company polo shirts will be provided. 

Must have / have access to a computer and printer

This role will start part time with a view to becoming full time by the end of the probationary period. 

During probation the candidate learn the role and our working practices from our own on-the-job training programme 

Salary: Minimum wage whilst on 3-month probation, rising to £10.00 per hour when qualified and probation completed, plus fuel expenses. 

Equipment to complete the work will be provided

Location: Our work is predominantly in Tyne and Wear, and we’re based in North Tyneside so we require you to also be based in or near North Tyneside.
