Why PAT testing is necessary
The HSE expects every workplace to perform PAT inspections and testing of all appropriate electrical equipment to make sure it is safe or to determine the need for any maintenance.
You need to perform regular inspections and tests to reduce the risks from electricity including electric shock, burns, arcing, fire and explosions.
Insurance companies expect you to be compliant with all workplace regulations to ensure the validity of your insurance policy
There are numerous legislations that require regular inspections and testing of electrical equipment (PAT) including the Electricity at Work Regs, and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Portable electrical appliances and equipment include any electrical appliance that connects to the mains using a plug and socket system, and any appliance that has been ‘hard wired’ but can still be moved.
