Free Remedial Repairs
Remedial repairs include; repairs to the existing plug and repairs to the flexible cable – if the plug needs a new screw, terminal screws tightening, cable grips fixing or replacing etc we will do these repairs automatically and for free.
If the cable is damaged we will cut it back to a safe location and reattach the plug, making it safe to use.
If the appliance itself needs basic safety repairs carrying out, such as tightening screws and re-attaching sides to a PC (for example) we will do this automatically too.
Most appliance repairs may need a specialist engineer or IT technician to fix.
Free Replacement Plugs
If the current ’13a’ (BS1363) plug is damaged beyond repair we will replace it free of charge with a new Pro-Elec plug to the value of £1.50 + vat plus labour.
Free Replacement Fuses
If the current plug fuse is incorrect or ‘blown’, we will replace it with a new fuse. This includes 3amp, 5amp, 10amp and 13amp fuses for BS1363 plugs.
Same Day PAT Testing Certificate Reports
It takes on average 5 working days to get the PAT report compiled and sent to you (it doesn’t take that long to produce but we allow 5 days to get it to you); in most cases you will receive it in 5 days.
If however, you need the report in a hurry we can get the report to you the very same day we do the test, however there are two important stipulations:
- We need to know in advance, so that we can make sure the engineer has his laptop with him to do it, and
- You need to pay the engineer in full whilst he is on site (cash or bank transfer)
Guidance for retest periods
Most people get their PAT testing done every year; its considered best practice, and is preferred by insurance companies. It’s also widely considered to be the cheapest avenue to follow to maintain safe electrical equipment and remain compliant with the legal requirements.
You can do your PAT testing in line with HSE guidance, although the risk is yours if something goes wrong – we tend to recommend if you follow this to get office equipment (for example) tested every 2 years, or
You can get a risk assessment done on every type of appliance and different location at your workplace, to determine appropriate frequencies. This can prove very costly and sometimes can lead to you getting tested more often than annual.
If you are unsure talk to our engineers about your options, or contact us to arrange a visit for us to assess your risks and discuss in detail what you need to do to maintain compliance.
Timely Retest Reminders
A benefit of working with us is you no longer need to remember when your PAT testing is due. Once in our system we will send you a reminder when retest dates are approaching.
How we do this, is approx 8-12 weeks before you’re due (depending on the size of the job and how busy we are) we’ll send you an email with a proposed date to do the job. All you need to do is tell us if the date is ok. We’ll then let you know what time to expect us.
