DRA PAT Testing: providing a specialist PAT testing service in the North East of England
DRA PAT Testing Ltd is the North East‘s leading (electrical) PAT testing company with more 5 star reviews on Google than any other electrical testing company.
With over 10 years experience of testing electrical equipment in the workplace we have developed a system to guarantee you minimal disruption, with sensible guidance and peace of mind that not only do your appliances maintain safety standards but you remain complaint with the legal regulations at all times.
We are able to test all types of electrical equipment including 110v, 230v, 415v and three-phase with plugs or industrial adaptors, integrated kitchen appliances where the plug can’t be accessed and electrical equipment wired directly into the mains supply.
We are also able to provide you with other electrical testing including fixed wiring inspections (EICR), emergency lighting, fire alarm testing and thermal image surveys, all carried out by our NICEIC registered electrical inspector.
We are a small but experienced team, qualified, PAT testing expert trained and competent with CSCS, DBS, Police checks, PATTA registered and CHAS accredited. We cover all of the North East of England from the top of Northumberland to Middlesbrough and County Durham from our Newcastle upon Tyne base.
Our North East PAT testing clients include
The National Trust – we currently do PAT testing for the National Trust at various North East sites including their Newcastle upon Tyne local office, and Cragside House and Gardens at Rothbury in Northumberland. We have been working with the trust since 2015.
Subway – We do PAT testing at 12 Subway branches from Gateshead to Middlesbrough. Working in fast food outlets like this require a degree of flexibility on our part; often with early starts to get done before shops open, or waiting for staff to finish serving customers before we can step in to do our job.
Hilton Garden Hotel – we carry out the PAT testing for the Hilton Garden hotel owned by Sunderland AFC situated within the grounds of the Stadium of Light in SR1 3HP. We first did this hotel in 2020, working to strict Covid restrictions at the height of the pandemic.
Durham Constabulary – we have been working with County Durham‘s Police force since 2015, and have to visit every station and owned building on a regular basis. This project has been structured so it’s on a rolling retest period, with the force’s buildings placed in 3 blocks, each done every 3 years for most appliances, although we do have to visit some sites annually. This project includes the Head Office at Aykley Heads in DH1 5TS.
North East of England Chamber of Commerce – as members of the NECC we have retained this contract since we took it on in 2014. We currently do the testing in all the chamber’s offices including Durham, Newcastle and Middlesbrough.
What is PAT testing and why do you need it?
PAT testing is a process that we carry out on electrical equipment to make sure it is safe to continue using, so that it complies with legal regulations. The process involves an inspection of the plug, fuse, cable and outer casing of the appliance to check for wear and tear, correct use, etc. and electrical tests using a PAT tester machine to check for internal faults in the earthing and insulation.
At any point during the inspection there may be a need for the engineer to carry out repairs so that the appliance will pass PAT testing; if this is necessary we will do it automatically. If something can’t be repaired then it would be deemed too dangerous to continue using and would fail the test; we’d then advice you what can be done with it.
PAT testing is carried out on appliances fitted with a plug (or industrial adaptor) that can be easily disconnected from the mains power socket. Integrated electrical appliances such as fridges in a kitchen are included in the inspection even when the plug can’t be accessed.
You need to get PAT testing done so that you comply with UK workplace regulations for health and safety; a duty holder for the business is responsible for ensuring equipment is safe to use and continues to be so. Regular PAT tests are recognised as the best and most efficient way of confirming electrical equipment is safe; especially as you will get a Certificate to confirm it.

What our customers say
Excellent, friendly and efficient service. We have a lot of staff that work flexibly and Richard was happy to pop back at a later date to test their equipment which we hadn’t initially mentioned. Would recommend DRA to any organisation that needs appliance testing carried out.
Jackson Hogg Recruitment, Newcastle
These guys were recommended to us and they came in recently to do the PAT Testing. The service was first class and report very professionally presented in an easy to understand format. It is rare I give 5 stars in a review however in this case it is thoroughly deserved and would recommend DRA PAT Testing Limited to any organisation
Thank you so much DRA PAT Testing. The process to book testing was very easy, and Richard could fit in the exact time frame we had. The tester had spare parts and was very professional and efficient.
