We are recruiting for new PAT testers; we take applicants who are already qualified and experienced, as well as those with no experience looking to get started in work or change careers.
Whatever category you fit into we have some must have criteria:
- You must be able to drive – this is essential for remote workers. Ideally you will also have your own reliable vehicle, and if so then it needs business insurance. We will pay you mileage allowance at 25p per mile initially rising to 35p per mile after 6 months probation. It is possible we can provide you with a company vehicle, which is strictly for business use only. A fuel card will be provided.
- You must be computer literate – you will need to do your own admin for your jobs, so you need to know your way around a computer. We can teach you what you do, but you need to have an understanding of Excel and Outlook. You will be provided with a laptop and appropriate software.
- You should be good with people – we work with our clients, often long term, and you will be the face they get to know, so you need to make a good impression.
- A basic understanding of electrical safety is essential, and ability to learn – we’ll teach what you need to know, but some background would help. If you are not experienced/qualified we will train you in-house and put you through appropriate courses.
- You should be reasonably fit and active – this is not a desk job, there will be stress on your body. We spend a lot of time crawling under desks, or squeezing into tight gaps to get to plugs, you have to be able to handle that. So dodgy knees or hips are no good, sorry.

If you have experience
Experienced PAT testers
Right now you are working as a PAT tester for another company, chances are you’re under a lot of pressure to meet ridiculous targets, and that’s affecting your mental health – you can’t keep up, you’re losing money, you feel guilty with all the corner cutting you have to do. This isn’t another one of those jobs. In fact, when we take on experienced engineers the first thing we do, is slow you down.
We want to tap in to your skills, experienced and knowledge and show you how you can use them the way you know you want to – by proving equipment is safe, by doing necessary repairs, by giving each appliance the time it deserves.
- We don’t expect 500 items a day, never, ever – we work on an average of 225 items per day. Sometimes we get more, sometimes less, lets just see how the cookie crumbles.
- Your diary is updated regularly, and you usually know your schedule at least 6 weeks in advance, sometimes longer. Most work is within 30 minutes of your home. We use Outlook for the diary.
- If you finish your work early (and have done a good job, not rushed it like you do now), then great, you finished early, go home. Our guys generally see if anyone else needs help, but it’s not always needed, so you can have an early finish.
- We don’t micro-manage you – you’re assigned a job, and we trust you to carry it out to the best of your ability, and to our standards. If the client is happy, gives a good review and you have done what you need to do, then we are happy.
- You do your own data and reports, so you get a half day admin time each week.
Our engineers are happy in their work, they enjoy the freedom they have and we reward them with regular pay rises, staff days, lunches, regular team meetings, their birthday off (after 1 years service), etc.
Working for us
You will be based from home and paid for all your working day including travel time from the moment you leave home to go to the first job, until you get home at the end of the working day. Your working day is up to 8 hours + overtime as required, or minimum 160 hours per month. We include paid breaks in the working day.
We pay an hourly rate depending on your experience, qualifications etc. Working an 8-hour day, the basic salary of our engineers (after 12 months) is £26,880 per annum although most come out with nearer £30,000. But remember you don’t have to break your back trying to get 500 items a day.
You should already hold the City and Guilds 2377-77 and you will also need to pass an enhanced DBS check, and we’ll need to receive 2 positive reviews from former employers. We also put you through additional training courses as required to enhance your skills.
We provide all engineers with:
- Test equipment appropriate to the role requirements
- Tool bag and tools
- Company branded work shirts (style of your choice) and mid-layers.
- Labels for when testing
- Ongoing guidance and training
- Personal Company email account and laptop/tablet
- A good wage, freedom to operate (we don’t micro-manage), pension and 28 days holiday per annum.
All of the above at no cost to yourself – that’s right, we don’t charge for testers, labels etc.
Full training:
You may have the experience, but you still need to be taught to work to our requirements, so initial training for the first week or so will be in ‘classroom’ and on jobs shadowing experienced engineers.
Holidays and other benefits:
- We pay all engineers’ 28 days holiday per annum including bank holidays. There is no overnight working, but you will be expected to work some weekends. We also have a Christmas shutdown period so you will not be working over the Christmas holiday – this comes out of your holiday entitlement. It may be possible to volunteer to work over the Christmas period, if the business requires it.
- After 12 months acceptable service, you will be granted your birthday off as an extra holiday, or you can postpone it to use for another occasion.
- All engineers are enrolled into the company pension scheme.
Wages and Salary on offer:
If you are qualified and currently working as a PAT engineer with more than 6 months full time experience:
Starting at £13.50 per hour rising £14.00 after completion of our 6 months’ probation, with further rises available based on specialisms, targets, experience etc.
*Please note, if you are not employed full time as a PAT tester, or have done some testing in the past, you will be consider a non-experienced engineer, so check out that job advert.
Do you want the opportunity of working for us?
Send us a covering letter by email telling us about you, and why we should consider you for this role, along with your CV to [email protected]
Please note – that letter is essential; if your application doesn’t have it, or you don’t tell us about you as a person then we won’t proceed with the application – we like to know who we are going to be working with.
If you have no experience
Become a (Trainee) PAT Tester
PAT Testing is a great job – it’s unlike almost any we come across. You’re not confined to one workplace and you will get to visit places you never thought possible – think Police stations, factories, top secret data centres, hospitals, building sites, big offices, local shops, cafe’s where they give you free coffee, and so on!
There’s more to it than checking electrical equipment is safe, our engineers explore the region, they get to travel, see new places and meet new people. The variety in the day is a major pull for the role.
Working for us
As an employed engineer you are required to attend clients’ sites as required in your diary, on time, and to inspect and test electrical equipment in accordance with our exacting standards, based on British Standards, the IET Code of Practice and PATTA’s Working Standards – they all probably mean nothing to you now, but in time you’ll know them without thinking.
You will be based from home and paid for all your working day including travel time from the moment you leave home to go to the first job, until you get home at the end of the working day. Your working day is up to 8 hours + overtime as required. Break times are included and you can take them whenever you want. Most travel will be within 30 minutes of your home base, although occasional longer journeys may be required.
During training period, you will need to use your own vehicle (or your mentor can pick you up if you’re both local to each other), and on completion of probation period you can either continue to use your own vehicle or a company vehicle may be provided. It is recommended you have your own vehicle (with business use insurance) from starting. When using your own vehicle you will be recompensed with fuel allowance of 25p per mile initially rising to 35p per mile after probation.
All our engineers are required to hold the City and Guilds 2377-77, which is a requirement to pass the 6-month probation period – so we will put you through that course and others. You will also need to pass an enhanced DBS check, and we’ll need to receive 2 positive reviews from former employers.
We provide all engineers with:
- Test equipment appropriate to the role requirements
- Tool bag and tools
- Company branded work shirts (style of your choice) and mid-layers.
- Labels for when testing
- Ongoing guidance and training
- Personal Company email account and laptop/tablet
- A good wage, freedom to operate (we don’t micro-manage), pension and 28 days holiday per annum.
What we expect from you – our minimum standards:
- A thorough understanding of all aspects of the role and technical requirements to complete probation (it’s acceptable to not have this when starting, as full training is given)
- Accurate inspection and testing of all on-site electrical equipment, including data recording
- Sending accurate job reports at end of each job, and daily data at the end of the working day, via email (you will need a computer/laptop)
- To be professional, reliable, punctual and build rapport with your clients, so they are happy with your work, continue to work with us and provide you with 5-star reviews.
To be considered for the role you will need to:
- Have good attention to detail (you’re being assessed from the initial enquiry), and good personal admin.
- Have an understanding of basic electrical safety and know about our company
- Be a nice person who is easy to get on with – when you work in a team it’s important you can immerse in the banter.
Unlike most PAT employers we do not expect you to hit unachievable targets – our engineers are targeted an average of 225 items per day depending on the jobs applied and role profile.
Holidays and other benefits:
- We pay all engineers’ 28 days holiday per annum including bank holidays. There is no overnight working, but you will be expected to work some weekends. We also have a Christmas shutdown period so you will not be working over the Christmas holiday.
- After 12 months acceptable service, you will be granted your birthday off as an extra holiday, or you can postpone it to use for another occasion.
- All engineers are enrolled into the company pension scheme.
- Half day a week to do your own admin.
Wages and Salary on offer:
