About the Role

We are looking to recruit a reliable, conscientious PAT Tester to join our growing business.
No previous PAT testing experience or formal qualifications are required — full training will be provided.

This role suits someone who is practical, methodical and trustworthy, and who is happy working independently and following clear procedures.

You will be carrying out Portable Appliance Testing at client premises across Newcastle, North Tyneside and the wider Tyne and Wear and Northumberland areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on a wide range of electrical equipment

  • Perform thorough visual inspections and electrical safety tests

  • Correctly label tested equipment and record results digitally

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients on site

  • Identify and report unsafe or faulty equipment accurately

  • Work independently while following company procedures at all times

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Full UK driving licence & Own reliable vehicle

  • Based in North Tyneside / Newcastle upon Tyne

  • English as a first language

  • Able to pass an Enhanced DBS check
  • Comfortable using smartphones, tablets and basic computer systems

  • Basic electrical knowledge (e.g. what a fuse is and why it’s important)

Purpose of the Role:

To ensure the electrical safety of portable appliances at client premises by carrying out PAT testing accurately, safely and professionally, in line with company procedures and UK safety standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct PAT testing using approved test equipment

  • Perform detailed visual inspections of electrical appliances

  • Identify defects, damage or safety issues

  • Accurately record test results and asset details

  • Apply appropriate pass/fail labels

  • Maintain professional conduct on all client sites

  • Follow health & safety procedures at all times

  • Protect client property and maintain confidentiality

We’re growing fast, and are now looking for an experienced* PAT tester to join our team.

The Role of a PAT tester

You’ll carry out electrical equipment testing at client sites, ensuring all appliances are safe, compliant and tested to the highest standards. You’ll work independently or as part of a team, as the job requires, delivering a great customer experience every time.

Unlike many other PAT companies, we don’t have silly targets, and we do expect you to provide a professional service at all times, with thorough visual inspections.

As a new to the team engineer, you will work alongside other team members until you’re up to speed with our standards and requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct PAT testing at various sites across the North East
  • Complete detailed and accurate test records using our software
  • Communicate professionally with clients and site staff
  • Maintain company standards for quality, safety and customer service
  • Identify and report electrical issues where necessary.

About you

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work and delivers top-quality service every time.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year’s experience as a full time PAT tester, and
  • City and Guilds 2377 qualification
  • Full UK driving license and reliable transport (a van may be provided after probation)
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and ability to use IT software including Outlook and Excel.
  • Professional, punctual, and customer focused attitude.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in commercial environments (e.g. offices, schools, landlords etc)
  • Be able to test over 200 items per day

  • Competitive Pay Rates – our engineers start on £30,160 p.a. with rises based on performance. Travel time is paid and fuel allowance if using your own vehicle. Regular overtime available.
